Holistic Postpartum Caregiver & Birth Doula In Training

My name is Nicole, I am a Holistic Postpartum Caregiver, and I’m so happy you’re here. For me, birthwork is about assisting women in reclaiming and rejoicing in the innate power and wisdom of their bodies, while also supporting the healing process. Holistic postpartum care acknowledges that diet, routine, and lifestyle supports the foundation of healing. We know that maternal health is foundational to humanity’s health, and so it is an honor to serve in this way.

My husband Chris and I had 3 beautiful water births at home for each of our children. With our first son, I experienced some challenges in the postpartum window, including engorgement and mastitis, an extended period of postpartum bleeding, and extreme fatigue. My life had been incredibly altered and I had a hard time stepping into my new role as mother. It wasn’t until after this experience I learned the importance of deep rest, of proper nourishment, of healing body treatments, of warmth, and of
community, which many ancient postpartum traditions all have in common.
I was able to create a postpartum plan for my second and third babies that was aligned with the healing process and that helped me bond with my babies. Not only were these last two postpartum experiences deeply restful and rewarding, they were free from many of the ailments I experienced with my first son.

My journey to this work started at UC Santa Cruz where I completed my B.A. in Cultural Anthropology. After extensive travel abroad, working with the Peace Corps in the Philippines and beginning a career in education, my life path altered with my first pregnancy in 2015. With a background in Anthropology, I wanted to understand how women across the world experienced pregnancy and birth. This led me to the work of midwives and home births. After experiencing a profound and rewarding home water birth, I wanted to understand more the power of women’s bodies and how we can ensure women feel empowered in their birth experiences.

I attended my first Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula Training
with DONA in 2018.I then worked with my first handful of families, but felt a need to provide deeper, more thorough and holistic care.I had the opportunity to complete the Ayurvedic Postpartum Caregiver
program with Sacred Window Studies in 2020 and will be completing training with INNATE Postpartum Care in 2022.

If you are wanting full spectrum postpartum support,I provide in-home care where I cook nourishing foods and herbal support foods specific for postpartum healing. Additionally,I provide an Ayurvedic
Abhyanga (herbal warm oil treatment), herbal baths, and belly wrapping.I check in with mama regarding emotions, bleeding, digestion, breastfeeding, and baby’s overall well being.I can also provide education in baby massage. If you only need consultation in planning a sacred and nourishing postpartum window,I am here to help in that preparation.I may be available as a birth doula in 2022.

Postpartum care is not a luxury, it is a necessity. My work goes beyond that of a usual postpartum doula, or that of a domestic helper.I am a postpartum care provider that understands the physiologic needs of women that is rooted in what our biology mandates is necessary for health and wellness.I am here to be by your side in your initiation into motherhood and ensure that that transition is grounded, is supported, and is meaningful.
